St. Teresa of child Jesus known as ‘The Little Flower’ was born in Alencon, France in 1873. She was the youngest child of Louis and Zelie Martin. Her parents were very good and pious. Teresa was drawn to God from a very young age. She lived a life of humility, simplicity and childlike trust in God. At the age of 15, she entered the Carmelite convent in Lisieux to give her whole life to God.
The world came to know her through her autobiography ‘Story of a soul ‘. She described her life as a little way of spiritual childhood. She lived each day with an unshakable confidence in God’s love. What matters in life she wrote, is not great deeds, but great love. Teresa lived and taught a spirituality of attending to everyone and everything well and with love. She believed that just as a child becomes enamored with what is before her, we should also have a childlike focus and totally attentive love. Her spirituality is of doing the ordinary with extraordinary love.
St. Teresa is remembered chiefly for her childlike trust in God. We the Teresians are proud to have this saint as our patron saint and are happy to follow the footprints of St. Teresa.
St. Teresa pray for us.
